The Funding Portal Inc. was recognized as the top new business start-up in Ottawa by the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce at a Chamber Breakfast event on Wednesday.
The Portal’s innovative new solution, which makes all federal, provincial and municipal funding and tax programs for business available on a new national bilingual Portal, was recognized before an audience of 250 regional business leaders and will be showcased again at the national gathering of all Chambers from across Canada at their Annual General Meeting later this month. The Portal was also featured in an article entitled “More Money, Fewer Hoops” in the September issue of The Voice, the monthly publication of The Ottawa Chamber of Commerce. In the article, John Reid, President and CEO of the Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance (CATA), says the Portal is “a very positive development from a business perspective.”
Speaking at the event, Steve West, CEO of global specialty health science company Nordion Inc, said, “The Portal is exactly the kind of service Nordion can use.”
Financed by Ottawa-based investor iVentures Inc., The Funding Portal Inc. is a Canadian private corporation. Teri Kirk, President of iVentures Inc., which has financed and built three previous Portals, says, “We have been overwhelmed with the market demand and excitement about this important new offering for companies wanting to explore the public funding marketplace as part of their expansion and R&D financing solutions. We are confident that we are providing a best-in-class solution in Canada and are moving forward with plans to enter select international jurisdictions over the coming 12 months.” Kirk has previously been named one of Ottawa’s top three female entrepreneurs by the Ottawa Citizen.
