Feds reviewing carbon funding for Ontario: Globe and Mail

The Government of Canada is reviewing $420M in climate change funding earmarked for Ontario following the Province’s cancellation of its cap-and-trade program, reports the Globe and Mail.

Quick Facts.

  • $420M of the federal $1.4B Low Carbon Economy Leadership Fund is currently earmarked for Ontario, but funding is contingent on agreeing to the national framework, which includes imposing a carbon price.
  • Doug Ford, the new Premier of Ontario, cancelled the province’s cap-and-trade program Tuesday, which included a cap-and-trade program established in collaboration with Québec and California.
  • Seven programs in Ontario had already been approved for funding, including the newly cancelled Green Ontario Fund, which alone had secured $100M in federal funding.
