Featured Grant: Ontario Tourism Association Gets $30M

The Tourism Industry Association of Ontario (TIAO) will receive $30M in funding from FedDev Ontario’s new Regional Relief and Recovery Fund (RRRF), the Government of Canada announced last week.

The TIAO supports the province’s tourism industry as a contributor to economic development and job creation. The sector has been one of the hardest hit by the COVID pandemic. The TIAO will redistribute the money it has received to destination marketing organizations (DMOs) across southern Ontario that have experienced significant revenue shortfalls. DMOs can apply for RRRF funding from TIAO as of June 5.

On a broader scale, the Government of Canada’s $962M RRRF program helps businesses and organizations in different sectors of the economy to recover from the effects of the pandemic. It launched on May 13 and is available across Canada through regional development agencies, including:

  • Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) in Atlantic Canada,
  • CanNor in Northern Canada,
  • Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED) in Quebec,
  • FedDev Ontario in Southern Ontario,
  • FedNor in Northern Ontario, and
  • Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) in Western Canada.
