Featured Grant: Paper Excellence Gets $10M

Every week, Fundingportal shares details on a notable recipient of Canadian grants and incentives.

Paper Excellence, the parent company of the Northern Pulp mill in Nova Scotia, has received $10M in government funding from the Government of Nova Scotia to clean up its site.

The mill has stopped discharging wastewater into Boat Harbour and is now expected to hibernate the remainder of its operations in an environmentally-safe way. The Government owns the pipe that runs from the mill to the harbour. The funding received represents about half of the cost of shutting down the mill’s effluent treatment facility.

This grant is a good example of funding for an environmental cleanup project in the forestry sector. Several similar grants are also currently available for oil, gas, and mine remediation projects in Western Canada.
